Tosca Callas

The Tosca Callas Suite includes two separate bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms, overlooking a verdant Mediterranean garden with a plunge pool.

Maria Callas was one of the most illustrious guests of Treville, and Tosca provided one of her most celebrated roles. The dominant feature in this double suite is light: mirrors, Vietri terracotta tiles and furnishings create unusual plays of chiaroscuro.

The Callas with its intricate tiled floor is full of warm yellows and orange with a playful hint of a refreshing mint green. The bathroom has a slight middle eastern feel with its geometric mosaics and stained glass windows.

Tosca is dominated by a dramatic gold centrepiece above the bed set into an arched alcove with rich blue and white furnishings while the bathroom is a delight of nature with a wall of windows looking into the surrounding garden.

Callas e Tosca

Maria Callas (1923-1977) was the most celebrated and influential Opera singer of the 20th Century. Bor in New York to Greek parents, she received her musical education in Greece and established her fame in Italy.

Praised for her bel canto technique, wide-ranging voice and dramatic interpretations, her repertoire ranged from classical opera to the bel canto operas of Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini and further, to the works of Verdi and Puccini; and even Wagner.

She graced the stage all over the world and her combination of musical and dramatic talents led to her being hailed as La Divina and she is still considered today as the definition of the artistic Diva.

----

Tosca is one of Giacomo Puccini's best known and most frequently performed operas. A melodramatic tour de force set in Rome in 1800, with the Kingdom of Naples' control of Rome threatened by Napoleon's invasion of Italy, the piece features a powerful score and characters to match.

Scenes of torture, murder and suicide, laced with some of Puccini's best-known lyrical arias provide the setting for one of Opera's most dramatic love stories with a simply unforgettable finale. Tosca at London's Royal Opera House was the final performance of La Divina.
